Bastia celebrates Catalan culture and hosts the Aplec Internacional 2025 in September
The city of Bastia announced this week on its official website that it will host the Aplec Internacional 2025 festival next September. This event is the result of cooperation between Catalonia and Corsica and will take place from September 26 to 28, 2025, in Bastia. “For three days, the city will live to the rhythm of Catalan traditions, during a festival that will combine heritage, popular culture, and artistic exchanges,” says the municipal statement.
The partnership was concluded with Adifolk, Associació per a la Difusió del Folklore, an organization founded in 1972 dedicated to promoting Catalan popular culture throughout Europe and the world. The Aplec Internacional, created in 1988, is a travelling festival set up worldwide each year to “offer residents an immersion in the dances, music, and customs of Catalonia.”
About 500 artists are expected in Bastia for these three days of festivities, which are also free. Here are the highlights of Aplec Internacional 2025, as can be read on the city of Bastia’s website:
FREE OUTDOOR SHOWS: Performances on Place Saint-Nicolas and other emblematic places, offering a panorama of traditional Catalan dances such as the Sardana, accompanied by live music.
CULTURAL EXCHANGES: The participation of Corsican and Catalan artists, fostering a rich and inspiring artistic dialogue.
FESTIVE MOMENTS: Parades, concerts, exhibitions of traditional games, and the Night of Fire, a true marker of Catalan tradition.
PROMOTION OF LOCAL HERITAGE: The program will include activities that highlight our built and natural heritage.
